Washington State Minimum Wage is Going Up January 1, 2025

The Washington State Minimum wage was $16.28 per hour, which is the highest state level minimum wage in the country.  The Roofing Contractors Association of Washington (RCAW) Lobbyists, Mark Gjurasic and Chester Baldwin, tell us that as of January 1, 2025, the minimum wage has climbed to $16.66 per hour – thirty-eight cents an hour increase.  This has been announced by the Department of Labor and Industry (L&I).

Currently the Federal minimum wage is $7.25 dollars per hour which is established by the Federal Government.

Cities can set minimum wages higher than the state.  For example, Seattle, Sea-Tac, Tukwila, Bellingham, and Renton will all have higher wages in 2025 than the state minimum wage.

Washington State readjusts their hourly wage each year for one year starting January 1 to December 31, 2025.  The state minimum wage applies to workers aged 16 and older.  State law allows employers to pay 85 percent of the minimum wage to workers ages 14 and 15 years old.  These younger workers beginning January 1, 2025, will be receiving $14.16 per hour.

Also, drivers in 2025 for ride share companies, by Lyft and Uber, receive a slight income boost as well.
