Basic Shelter Project 2023

Roofing Industry Family Comes Together for a Deserving Disabled, Senior and Veteran in Lakewood

The Roofing Contractors Association of Washington (RCAW) provided an amazing new roof to help deliver a safe and healthy home for an honorable disabled senior Veteran in Lakewood, in partnership with Rebuilding Together South Sound on April 12, 2023.

RCAW annually operates the Basic Shelter Project, where they help repair damaged and leaking roofs for families in need in Washington State. All costs, materials, and labor was donated by RCAW members to make this house a secure and strong home again for a disabled Veteran in Lakewood who reached out to Rebuilding Together South Sound,. As partners with RCAW, Rebuilding Together South Sound, provided the information to help repair his damaged roof. RCAW immediately did a call to action to their membership, and instantly joined forces with generous roofing community members who were willing to donate their time, materials, and money to help this honorable Veteran feel secure under a new protected roof. On February 16, 2023, RCAW jointly met with Rebuilding Together South Sound, Lakewood Roofing and GAF who graciously visited his home to do an initial site check and meet this amazing Veteran and his daughter personally who were delighted to have this work done.

April 12th RCAW members, Christian Flores, with Lakewood Roofing, cordially donated all the labor for full and complete tear-off and re-roof, as well as Donovan Gladstone with GAF, North America’s Largest Roofing manufacturing company is donating the roofing materials package. Also contributing to this project is: Travis Young with Tru Colors Contracting for the TPO, Justin Shirley, State Roofing helped with the dump trailer/recycling and Colin Madsen, Madsen Roofing contributed sheeting and plywood. Joshua Wilson with Stoneway Roofing Supply is our chosen distributor who helped with anything extra needed to complete this home. The Veteran is beyond thankful for everyone who donated to help him continue to live his best life in his family home. RCAW is looking forward to working with Rebuilding Together South Sound in 2024 to continue to make a difference is someone’s life.

“Knowing recent times have been tough for the roofing industry. I am very proud to be a part of an association, like RCAW, whose members continue to promptly join forces together, to help Washington State families in need. This is a positive story that needs to be shared with others.” said Justin Shirley, 2022-2023 RCAW President.
