Doing Good in Our Neighborhood

Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity relies on local roofing contractors

A neighborhood builder since 1985, Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity has been partnering with income-qualified homebuyers to purchase homes and provide financial coaching and access to special financing tools to make homeownership more accessible.

From its very conception, Tacoma Habitat has been rooted in partnership. As a volunteer-centered organization, we are grateful for the generosity of those who give their time to build with us. We also celebrate industry partners who come along side, with donated labor and/or materials. Once such relationship is GAF’s Community Contractor program, where factory-certified roof installers donate their labor and GAF donates the product to install roofs on Habitat homes nationwide.

In Pierce County, 21 new construction roofs have been donated by the following GAF certified installers since 2019: Achten’s Quality Roofing, Inc., Chase Construction Northwest, Inc., Chinook Roofing & Gutters, Do It Right Roofing, LLC, Four Seasons Roofing, Horizon Roofing, Legends Roofing Co., Mears Roofing, Peaks Northwest Roofing and TriState Roofing, Inc. Thanks to these incredible partners, every new construction home we’ve built since 2019 has had a donated roof.

Habitat operates on a thin margin, and while we sell homes for under $300,000 to income-qualified buyers, the cost to build is the same as any other developer. As Tacoma Habitat works to increase our capacity in response to the housing affordability crisis, we need the support of RCAW members.

Over the next year alone, Tacoma Habitat needs 15 roofs for new construction builds. If your company would like to provide a hand-up to those struggling to find and keep safe and stable housing, please contact Jonah Kinchy at for more information. It’s contractors like you that really make the difference and keep Habitat for Humanity a hometown miracle.
